General Blocksom Leaves Camp Cody – May 10, 1918

Filed under: Camp Cody Deming — Michael Kromeke @ 8:21 pm

Major General A. P. Blocksom left for his new Command of the Hawaiian department 91 years ago this month. The General had been in command of Camp Cody since its formation. Fellow officers paid their respects and wished the General success in his new post. General Blocksom was given a farewell luncheon at the officer’s mess hall served by the Harvey House.
Camp Cody’s new commander will be Major General William H. Johnson from Camp Travis in San Antonio, Texas. The post will be temporally filled by Brigadier General Frank Mauldin until his arrival. The people of Deming have a genuine feeling of regret at General Blocksom leaving. The General worked hard to keep the civilian populations and Camp Cody soldiers in amicable situation.
